Westminster, CAThis position requires judgement to plan & perform normal range of operations requiring tool setting and machining with a manual lathe by established machining procedures that may affect quality of work.
Responsibilities:
Set up and operate manual lathes to perform a series of repetitive machining operations, such as turning, boring, threading, or facing of metal work pieces such as casting, forgings, & bar stock according to specifications, sketches, routing instructions and knowledge of turning procedures.
Reads blueprints, sketches, job orders for such specifications as dimensions, tolerances, and instructions.
Positions & secures tools in holders using wrenches.
Lifts workpiece manually & positions & secures it between lathe centers, in chuck or in holding fixture, using wrenches.
Moves controls to set specified rotation speeds, feed rates, & depth of cuts.
Observes machining operation to detect malfunctions or excessive tool wear.
Verifies conformance of machined work to specifications using gauges, calipers, & micrometers.
Changes worn tooling.
May compute such date as dimensions, rotation speeds, feed rates, & machining times using knowledge of shop mathematics & metal properties.
Perform miscellaneous duties & responsibilities as assigned.
Preferred
Qualifications:
Must have a minimum of 2
years of experience in the related field, though prefer candidate who has 5
years of experience in the related filed.
Must be able to set up and operate manual equipment efficiently.
Must have good mechanical skills.
High school diploma or GED.
Aerospace experience is preferred.
Experience with close tolerance and high-quality precision work.
The ability to execute complex set-ups requiring unique and non-routine methods.
Solid understanding of metal properties and use of precision/non-precision instruments.
Strong basic math skills.
Ability to read drawings, tool layouts and specifications.
Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
Strong communications and teamwork skills.
