This position is with the Department of Homeland Security, within U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Office of Field Operations, Los Angeles Field Office, located in Long Beach, CA. This position starts at a salary of $54,699.00 (GS-08, Step 1) to $71,108.00 (GS-08, Step 10) with promotion potential to $71,108.00 (GS-8 Step 10). In this Secretary (Office Automation) position you will become a key team member of Homeland Security professionals providing administrative support. Typical work assignments include:
Screening calls and visitors and referring them to the appropriate staff member, supervisor, or director Reading, preparing, routing, and proofing all incoming and outgoing correspondence and maintaining required office records and files Providing understandable ad hoc and recurring reports; assembling data and compiling statistics Explaining non-technical office policies, procedures and conducting training to managers and staff Arranging travel, meetings, conferences and all materials needed for organizational visits
Experience:
You qualify for the GS-08 grade level if you possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as:
Screening callers and visitors while personally taking care of many requests and resolving complaints Reading incoming correspondence, determining proper action, and preparing responses to some items Reviewing outgoing correspondence and reports to ensure proper format, grammar, and coordination Ensuring that all requests for action or information are acted upon Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. You must meet all qualification requirements, including education if applicable to this position, subject to verification at any stage of the application process by 10/09/2020. In order to be considered for this position, you must complete all required steps in the process. In addition to the application and application questionnaire, this position requires an online assessment. The online assessment measures critical general competencies required to perform the job. The assessment includes a cut score based on the minimum level of required proficiency in these critical general competencies. You must meet or exceed the cut score to be considered. You will not be considered for the position if you score below the cut score or fail to complete the assessment. There is a residency requirement for all applicants not currently employed by CBP. Individuals are required to have physically resided in the United States or its protectorates (as declared under international law) for at least three of the last five years. Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
